Entrance Porch & Kitchen

Entrance Porch
This is the main entrance to my cottage, known as the "Back Porch". This was originally rendered with a horrible plastic roof, now it has a proper gable roof with a stone archway and all of the render has been removed to expose much of the original brick work from when the cottage was built over circa 1890. The shaker storage bench I had custom made, it is so useful, the lid lifts up and all the shoes can be hidden away. In a morning I sit here and have my first cuppa of the day. When it is light mornings and before the trees start to show leaves, I can see squirrels playing in the branches of the trees at the back of our garden.
Make-Do Shelf In Porch
My newest piece of prim furniture hand made by my husband just a couple of weeks ago. I made the bonnets which originally hung from a peg rail, they look loads better hanging against the back board of the shelf. I covered the fabric books and the little candle holder is from Winter Willow Primitives.

Prim Kitchen Corner
My bentwood sieve with a few butter paddles, a smaller bentwood sieve resting inside and old wooden spoons. Now my kitchen is only very small, I really had to think long and hard about how to make best use of such a small space and this was the end result.

Kitchen Window
This is my little Kitchen Window updated with prim tails and undersink curtain, made from rich chocolate brown cotton fabric. The Spool Doll I have moved from out of the Keeping Room and beside her is a tinder box candle holder from Winter Willow Primitives. Originally there was a doorway leading from the Kitchen to the Gathering room. With the wall taken out it now has a more open feel to it and whilst the Kitchen is still small, to me it is "perfectly formed" and I love it! For those of you wondering how on earth I wash clothes with no washing machine, both the washing machine and tumble dryer are under the work benches in my workroom. You really do learn how to make the most effective use of the space you have when you live in a cottage. The pottery you see on the wood worktops is Denby Bakewell. When my Nana died which is over 21 years ago now she bequeathed a tea set to me and over the years I have managed to get the complete dinner set, including casserole dishes and storage jars, you name it I got it!

Prim Kitchen Shelf
Where the microwave is, this was the original back entrance to our cottage. When the Gathering room was renovated in 2008, the new french doors went in which meant this doorway could be blocked up to give me more space in the Kitchen. The shelf is one of my many specially made pieces by Sarah & Steve Caitlin. I love it and it's totally transformed an otherwise boring kitchen wall. My newest pieces are the little splint basket from America filled with sweet annie and the small doll is one I hand made.
