Gathering Room

Stepback, Buckets & Bowls

The stepback was made as a special OOAK design by Sarah & Steve Catlin and I totally ADORE it!! It has made such a huge difference to the look in this room and even though it is only 8 inches shorter in length it makes the whole room look bigger!! On it are a collection of stoneware jars with prim labels and fabric tops, a couple of old wood bowls which I painted and aged and one of my latest handmade little dolls. Underneath the first shelf is a lovely aged tin reflector lamp. A more recent purchase is the broom pouch which holds a vintage broom in one pocket and a small patch doll in the other. My pride and joy are the firkin buckets, all bought from the states and all are original estate finds. Above the buckets hangs an old wood dough bowl.

Peg Board Cupboard & Make Do Peg Rack

The peg board cupboard is another piece made by Sarah & Steve Catlin, I had a specific idea of what I wanted and it turned out exactly as I imagined. I covered the books and made the little bird sat on top of them and gave a paint makeover to two old wood munising bowls. Hanging from three pegs underneath the shelf are a collection of prairie bonnets, all handmade by me. Another piece of prim furniture made by the Prim @ Heart Homested (Sarah & Steve Caitlin) is the make do peg rack. New additions here are the wonderful old hanging basket filled with sweet annie and I made a new prim towel to tuck into the wire hanger.

The Cupboard Corner

I have had a major change round in this alcove and at long last I have a cupboard to house my TV!! I really didn't like the television being on show so after much careful thought my husband decided to have a go at making a prim cupboard to hide the TV and DVD and this is the end result!! I LOVE it and think he did a fantastic job on it! On the top sits a simple aged tin lamp. The cubby above was made by Sarah & Steve Catlin and it now houses just a few items. An old wood bowl, painted and aged sits on the bottom shelf, the middle shelf houses a checkerboard and pin keep and on the top shelf sits another of my little homestead dolls.

View Into Kitchen

Another new addition since I last took pictures is the wood chair; a find in a house clearance centre, a bargain @ £45!! It had layer upon layer of varnish on it so my husband took it to be dipped, which was £15 and I waxed it up, this was the end result! Not bad ehh for a total cost of £60!!

Fireplace & Tall Bookcase

I had this rustic pine bookcase made to fit the gap in between the fireplace and an understairs cubby. Recently I changed things around and after hours of moving "this and that" this was the end result. The firkin bucket was something of a bargain, I managed to get it for $15 but it was in desperate need of some tender loving care. At some point in its life somebody had covered the entire body of the bucket with green string and then varnished over the top of it!! It was heartbreaking to see, but after plenty of patience and elbow grease I have managed to remove all the varnish and I then painted it a lovely duck egg blue, it matches the blue cotton sack on the bottom shelf just perfectly.
